Media communicates ideas through several genres. What images and issues are being communicated through visuals and sounds watched by millions of young children everySaturday morning?
Although I do not watch Saturday morning cartoons anymore, I still enjoy my past memories of a little kid watching the cartoons with my brother. I agree with Bianca, I like explosions, mass destruction, and universal warfare. I also like episodes with suspense, and monstrous fights. I do not like heroes as much as I like villains. I think that villains are more important and more cooler than heroes.
well, i have always wondered what my parents were talking about when they said these exact cartoons were filled with trash. i had always found them exciting and fun. however, with these cut scenes, i see these cartoons at a different perspective. everything seems preposterous and inconceivable. the villains were silly, the explosions could only entertain a mindless child, and the lasers were ridiculous. HOWEVER! these same silly cartoons can sometimes project good morales. one example of this is the section of teamwork. many young children want to be like their favorite hero, and it just so happens that their favorite hero does good deeds.
I noticed that there seems to be a lot of violence and physical pain as I watched this video. There also seems to be a lot of superhero and villain themes in Saturday morning cartoons.
Although I hardly ever watch Sat. morning cartoons, Here is my opinions on why children these days are so obsessed with them.: Heroes give kids a sense of someone who is about a BAZILLION times cooler than they are. Rather than making us feel very degraded, they also tell us that even though we don't have superpowers and such, we can be as cool as them, on the inside, by being the best you can be. Although the villains scare us so much *cough cough*:)and we are in doubt of the heroes ability to obtain victory, the cartoon always ends up giving the prize to the good guy, symbolizing that good will always prevail! Lasers and explosions give us action and suspense and gives the cartoon a bit of an edge. Teamwork helps show that sometimes, you can't do it alone and that when you cooperate, much more is possible than being solitary. :D
I believe that the reason children are fanatical with Saturday morning cartoons is because it is basically a show with the aspirations and ambitions of younger kids. I mean every hero in these clips have vast biceps, triceps, and six-packs. Who doesn't want to be buff? Like Courtney also said, heroes give children a chance to "live" the life of a superhero. I can't count how many times I have heard people of all ages murmer to themselves, "I wish I were a superhero. . .if only I could do that." Heroes give children hope and the message that everybody can do great things even if they weren't born mutated, weren't bitten by a radioactive spider, or weren't exposed to gamma radiation.
I think that the images shown to children every Saturday are very violent. These images are violent but young children are attracted to them. I think that although the shows on Saturday mornings are violent, they are not yet inappropriate. I think that children are attracted to the cartoons because of the heros, explosions and the violence.
I LOVE Saturday Morning cartoons! My favotie part is the Explosions. So many explosions!
