Body language Observation

Our group (Tushara, Asha, Tiffany, and Raji) observed a couple of girls in the hallway. It was drizzling outside so no one was at our previous location, Sophomore Tree. They were laughing, eating, and talking, and occasionally looking down to books spread out across their area. One looked kind of bored, either that or put out; one looked expectant, or hyper, energetic. She kept looking around. Two were working more, the other looking over. It was difficult to tell social position; they all seemed equal. But it was definitely interesting to watch them during lunch, see the movements they might have not been sure they were making. Body language is very insightful.

Being A True Hero

"When I was young, my favorite hero was Superman, because he would always help people, no matter what it required...." the speaker began. Then, he went on to say that although the ideal hero for us is usually a comic book figure, complete with supernatural powers, capes, costumes, and a symbol, there's really much more to a hero than that. To tell the truth, a hero is someone who is willing to do something kind for somebody else, regardless of what reason. Anyone can be a hero, at anytime, even during a career; teachers, firefighters, policeman, doctors and etc. are all included. Being a hero is simply anybody who goes out of their way to do the right thing for someone else just because it benefits everybody. We all have the potential to be a hero, but there are 2 main factors that you need to help you be a hero: initiative, and opportunity. If you notice and take on the initiative or step up to giving yourself up to helping others, then you have grabbed the opportunity to be a hero for someone else. But heroes don't just do the right thing to make themselves feel better; they do it to make the other person feel better, although the reward is all the same. It doesn't matter who, what or where you are; you can always be a hero. I wish to ask you; what is a hero to you? Is it those comic book figures, an everyday hero, or both? Still, no matter what you do, from picking up a piece of trash from the ground at the beach, or even saving a person's life in a fire, you can still be a hero because you make a difference in the environment and yourself. Even though an act of heroism may sometimes be easily given or brief, their echoes will never die, for they are truly endless. When we lose our heroism, our community falls apart; but when we embrace it, the hero within ourselves truly shine.♥

Secrets to Body Language :)

I thought the video secrets to body languge was informative. Knowing when someone is lying is good so that you could hold it against that person. Plus, I thought it was really cool that people do different stuff with their body when they have different emotions. I didn't know that professtional people like the presidant or actors practiced their body languge so that they don't look dumb in front of people. I thought it was really funny when George Bush made a mistake, but it didn't really look like he cared. It looked more like he was some kid who was like oh i made a mistake, my bad! : ) Overall I thoght the video was pretty good... for a school thing.

Body Language Assignment. :D

Theres are some pictures that I took while observing the halls during lunch. Of these groups, there are no real "leaders". These groups are formed by, first, one person sitting alone. Eventually, his/her friend comes, then their friend, then their friend, then their friend... ect. The groups eventually get bigger and bigger until there are really, no more people left to invite to their groups. These groups are also scattered along the edges of the lockers. Many of them talk and just chat, and play around. Usually, none of them are doing homework. In picture one, Augustin, Raj, and (unidentified) are noticed in the picture, chatting amiably. In the background of the 1st picture, Edwardo, Diego, and Isidro are talking amongst themselves as well. In picture two, there is a biiiiig group of people aligned up against the lockers. There is Lizzy, Katy, Yasmine, Yasmine, (unidentified), Jeremy, Terry, and more. Across from there are also more lines of people sitting and eating their lunches. In picture 3, it is a smaller group. Daphne, Frank(Frark), Kyle, Allison, Kyung, and Teresa are lined up against the lockers. (again). As you can see, there is a significant pattern in how 7th graders(scrubs) eat lunch. :D

Secrets of Body Language

From the Secrets of Body Language video, its revealed that there is more meaning to what we don't say. In fact, about 93% of our communication with other people are non-verbal. Body language is helpful and essential in many ways. I think that body language is used in our daily lives, for example, out hand gestures as you are explaining/telling about something or in business for profit. To find out some common body language among the older students of the school, our group was to observe the line at the Hutch(cafeteria). We noted that the older students mostly traveled in small mobs, although the seventh and eighth graders stood in smaller groups. Some high schooler suddenly walked up to the high school group and after short laughs he joined. The people behind, mostly younger didn't seem to mind much.

From the video yesterday, it also shows us how celebrities use it. Paris Hilton, after getting out of jail, hands on her belly button, held together. This was believed to be a rehearsed gesture as this is never seen. Then whole message however was "I have learned my lesson, I am a good girl now."

The Body's Secret Language... Shh!

I really liked the Secrets of Body Language video. I never knew 93% of our communications is just the body. It was interesting seeing famous people's body language revealed. Especially the door gesture. And Paris Hilton's release from prison was really interesting. I am very happy that we have body language experts to tell us what all this means.
~TVTP

Observing the... Hutch line??? :D

Our group, Kyung Y., Augustine, Anna, and I, observed the line at the cafeteria/Hutch. We realized that the older students (high schoolers) stayed in groups that consisted of friends and stuff. When another friend showed up, they immediately brought them into their group without asking about "cutting in line" or anything. Yet, the younger students (junior high) didn't not retaliate or say anything to them. :)

Body Language Communication

I thought that the Secrets of Body Language video was pretty cool, and it teaches a lot about body language. I think that once someone watches this video. they'll never view politicians and celebrities the same ever again. The video taught about the other % of communication that had nothing to do with verbal speech. I thought that this video was really fun and informative.

SECRETS OF BODY LANGUAGE(CELEBRITIES)

Yesterday, we watched a movie on body language. It showed how to interpret peoples actions, and why they do it. It alsow showed how to read micro-expressions and see how to know if one is listening as you talk, or if one is actually a different mood inside. One example, is Paris Hilton. As she was walking out of jail, she stood in a pose she never stood in before. This pose was to tell people watching "I've learned my lesson; i've been to jail." She puts her hands in front of herself and it actually, makes her look very innocent.

Secrets of Body Language video response

Watching the body language video was very informativ and very interesting. I liked how it covered the body language of world leaders such as George W. Bush, Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, etc. It was also very cool when body language experts state that body language can show dominance and superiority. The video was also in a way very helpful when the experts explained that good body language is a vital characteristic that a good salesman must have. In conclusion, the video was very interesting and helpful.

The secrets to body language!! ;D

I think that the Secrets to Body Language was pretty educational. It was funny at times... and it taught me a lot about body language. It also helped me understand a person or a group better without even talking to them. By using body language, you can see the person's personality, even know what social rank that person is in, and even know what they are doing! All in all, this speech class helped me write and speak better speeches and know what kinds of gestures to do while publicly speaking.

body language vid response

i learned that body language is very important in communications. in fact, 93% of communication is non-verbal. also, body language can affect whether or not a salesman can make the sale, as shown by an experiment with car salesmen. the salesman with a more confident smile and respect for the customer could have made an easier sale than the one with lower confidence in his voice and smile and an authority's posture. i had thought that chatting online was good enough for communicating, but now i know that it's not even half of it.

I'm Excited About This Class!:D

I'm excited about this class becuase it will help me speak more comfortably in front of people. I can't wait to start doing new types of speeches. This class is going to be lots of fun!:)

body language video

For some reason, the main and ideal type of communication to us is through speaking. But you'd be surprised at how untrue that (statement) is. Studies have shown that only a 7% is through a verbal connection, and a high Remove Formatting from selection93% is through non-verbal communication. When I had first heard this fact, I was honestly thoroughly shocked. But I guess that this would definitely be true. Our body has it's own "emotions" and displays them in different ways. I now realize that it's not what you see, but what you don't see that you need to emphasize upon. Also, to tell the truth, every single little detail of what we do give spectators, a chance to interpret our feelings. While I was sitting there solemnly gazing at the smart-board, it came to me that every reaction, every blink, every pat portrays your thoughts, because although we don't think about every exact, precise move before we act, our tiniest reactions to what our brains are feeling unveil the biggest things. But really, what I think I understood the best and was able to analyze the most was this particular line: "When people look into your eyes, they can see right into your soul." I believe strongly that what this quote is implying is that your eyes truly reveal an intense, emotional part of you that is your deeper, inner self within.♥

secrets to body language :)

The Secrets to Body Language was an interesting video.. it shows the different kinds of body movements and what they mean. For example, entering a room last, especially with someone of power, shows that you are in charge and that you have the upper hand. It shows different people with power, usually politicians, and compares their body language to the others. The body language video explained how to tell what different body movements meant and how they are usually tied to the person's personality.

The Secret Signs Of Body Language

Do you know the signs of body language? Do you know when a person is lying? I just saw a video about body language. I thought it was interesting how people do all these little things, but those little things give out a lot of information about the person. It also is interesting how, little body movments can show how a person feels. It is a lot like the show "Lie to Me". Hand movments can also determine how the person feels. For example, when a person put their hands behind their backs and hold them, that is called "self touching". It is to reassure the person that they can make it through what they are doing, such as a speech where people ask you questions about what you are talking about. When a person crosses their arms, it means that the person wants to get out of the converstation.

Secret to the Body Language observation

I think the body language video as very informative, and it will help us in our future and daily lives. It could help us in our speeches, or in other scenarios. Not only was it fun and time consuming, but it was very informing, analyzing celebrities.
Observations
I observed the group that sat around the tree at the north-west corner of the school near the main office. I studied their expressions and body language. Even though they looked like they had much fun, they did not have andy interesting body language. They looked at each other and acknowledged that each other was talking, but they did not exemplify any body language out of the ordiary. Some of them stood up because it was raining, and they smiled, ate their lunch and laughed, and one was toying with their umbrella. In conclusion body language is important and it plays a big impact in your daily lives.

Secrets to Body Language Video

The video was pretty interesting, showing all the little parts of body language we seem to miss. It was surprising to hear that 93% of communication is not verbal, but through body language. It was also interesting that power could be determined about who walked through the door last, who gives someone else a pat on the back, or even the way a handshake is positioned. The video also used examples of Brittney Spears and Paris Hilton. Brittney Spears used to be very comfortable in the limelight, but now, she is very defensive against the media. Paris Hilton, when she got out of jail, tried to look like a good girl by crossing her arms like a little girl. There were also other very interesting examples, like pointing at the crowd, self-touching to comfort yourself, and also just how people sometimes while giving a speech can retreat from the podium. The video showed a lot of info that was pretty interesting, and it showed that body language means almost everything.

Secrets of Body Language video response

I thought that the body language video shown in class was very imformative. This particular video shows us different types of body language and what those actions mean. For example by playing with your hands means that you are either bored or nervous. Another example would be for instance a teacher educating a very talkative class. He or she might be patient and cross their arms waiting for the class to be quiet or become upset and shout at them to be quiet.

Secrets To Body Language

Have any of you seen a couple taps on the shoulder, or a little nudge through the door? I'm guessing most of you didn't realise that this could mean that you friend is trying to show dominance over you. Jerks, but who needs them :] . Anyhow, as strange as it is, body language can tell how your feeling, no matter how hard you try to hide it. Nice, huh? Well, back to this. Even the most popular can't controll themselves. Take presidents for example. You know those(to be cont.)

The Secrets of Body Language

The secrets to body language we watched on 10/12/09 showed how you spoke, not with speech, but with body language. 7% of your actual talking is by talking. 93% of this talking is by body language.

For example: someone is giving a speech on a podium. What you don't know is he might be doing the self ouch motion which "relaxes" you while you are up there. The self touch motion consists of putting your hands behind you and playing with your hands, fingers, palm, etc...

Example 2:When you come to the East of the world, the man / woman who enters last shows that they are a host, or they are the one who has the power.

Example 3:There are three people sitting in a row. 1 2 3. The person sitting in chair 2 usually has the power because the man on the chair in the middle doesn't have to talk to both. He has the choice of only talking to the man on the right or the left.

Example 4:You are talking to your friends while you are sitting. You make up a story to impress your friends, but right after, you back up on the chair. Backing up usually shows
"oh no ".

Lastly, body language shows a lot about "who has power" or "oops i said something".
It might help you in pictures but in real life cases it could tell you if someones lying or if you want to sell something, body language can help you.

Secrets of Body Language Video

This video was a very interesting. The secrets of body language can help with several situations. It also shows what people are reallly saying. In the video so far it showed how every person's body language is different. Usually a president's body language is showing that he's in charge and has power. Body language is 93% of speaking and the other 7% is verbal. They showed several examples of presidents and celebrities using different body language. Some of them were George Bush, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Hillary Clinton, President Obama, and several other world leaders. Body language can show many different things such as power, manners, and confidence.

Secrets to Body Language Reflection

From my point of view i thought that the video on "Secrets to Body Languauge" was very informative. It told us a lot about different kinds of body language, and many examples, such as George W. Bush. How he was childish by tripping and openning wrong doors and how after he made a mistake. he look directly at the audience(eye contact) and had a good laugh with the people who saw him make the mistake or trip. Also according to the video we wathced it said that 93% of what we communicate is nonverbal!! All in all the video was very interesting and taught us about the secrets of people's body language.

Secrets of Body Language

Interpreting body language is an interesting subject, and the video was informative, opening my eyes to how much we really show with facial expressions, movements, etc. (We communicate 93% through body language, only 7% through words.) One of the examples shown was the president, Barrack Obama, and his predecessor, George W. Bush. Once, when Bush tried to open a locked door, he ended up blundering in front of the press and media. He assumed an amused look, and this action was probably done to make the whole issue seem like a laughing matter. The action of Bush, done intentionally or not, were revealing to his inner feelings about the situation - embarrassment and annoyance. His mistake not only hurt the image he was trying to create, but his personal pride, so he did his best to cover it up. After watching many examples of celebrities, politicians, and salesmen in similar situations, body language and its interpreters seem even more amazing to me. It is an art difficult to understand and the video enforced this concept in many ways.

The 93% We DON'T Say

Did you know that 93% of what we communicate is actually nonverbal? In truth, our outer appearance and body language has a much bigger impact on our audiences than anything we could ever say. I, honestly, was shocked and surprised at the low 7% we use to communicate verbally with people and wondered whether this was truly possible.

On Monday, October 12, 2009, my class watched part of the video, Secrets of Body Language, and it has really opened up a new range of thoughts for me. Before watching the video, I never knew politics had their body language coached and that something like a handshake could mean that you had dominant power over another person. It really brings a whole new perspective about not only listening to people talk but to look and to try to find hidden clues in their actions and every move. I really enjoyed it when the video showed examples of body language by putting in several George Bush videos. It made me laugh when he tried to exit through a door after saying a speech but found it locked. (LOL!) I honestly thought that letting someone in through the door before you was a sign of respect, but now I know that for politicians and people in the Middle East, those who lead people through doors have power and are the leaders in that group.

Celebrities! Have you ever wondered whether your favorite celebrity has been coached? Well, according to the video, Secrets of Body Language there are several signs to figure out whether your celeb has been taught the art of body language. First, try to notice any pauses between actions--as if they're thinking before acting. Secondly, look for gestures that don't seem natural; these are sure signs that the celebrity has been coached.

All in all, Secrets of Body Language was very informative, and I will never think the same way about president elections, celebrity interviews, and even cliques at school. This video has really opened up a whole new perspective, and I would recommend it to anybody who wants to learn about the 93% we don't say.

Secrets To Body Language VID

I think that the video of the "Secrets Of Body Language" is a very helpful video. It is because now, for example, if I'm talking with someone, I'll know what he/she feels about me by looking at what they do with their body. I also think that some parts of the video is wrong because the part when the video says that, "crossing arms mean that the person is trying to hide something," is wrong. Sometimes when a person is crossing arms meant that the person is saying. So I think that the video is good, but few parts are wrong.

Secrets to Body Language Video! (Presidents and Celebrities)

Yesterday, we watched a video about the secrets of body Language. The most important thing I learned was that the presidents are so childish! NO, not really. I learned that their are alot of small things that show dominance and power, such as, when one shakes hands, the hand that is on top is the most powerful or something like that.
In the Picture below, you see 3 leaders, the one that looks most powerful is the one in the center, right? Also, if you would look at the postures of the three, which one looks more powerful, the center One! This is because he is sitting relaxed and sitting up straight. The other two are sitting kind of awkward and wierd.
Thanx You!

Why is body language important? ...

Secrets to Body Language: Video

I, in my opinion, agree with the experts that body language is crucial in determining how one perceives another. When you are only hearing one's words, you may feel differently as conmpared to actually watching one SPEAK. Body language is important because it has the ability to tell us things that the speaker does not. For instance, who has the "UPPER HAND" in a handshake can tell us who thinks who's in charge, as well as who "GOES THROUGH THE DOOR LAST" which shows us the same thing. We can also narrow down our choices to what is TRUTH and what is LIE through body language and not words. Body language also heavily affects how we SEE EACH OTHER. We may be able to point out all the negative or positive things in a person which may affect how we see the personality of a person. Thus, body language is crucial, in even our EVERYDAY LIVES.

Secrets to body language video

Today my group and I observed these two ninth grade girls at the tables. I observed that they used their hands alot in their conversations and they also never turned away from each other to show that they were paying attention. As you can see in the picture that I have taken they are sitting up straight to show that they are interested in what each other are talking about. In conclusion this picture is about body language and communacation.
